A friend is someone who…

Happy Tuesday!

Today I want to share a layout that I made after being very inspired by this week’s Studio Calico challenge. Kinsey’s layout is so gorgeous! I’ve never really used my Silhouette Cameo like this before – making a large, negative space title like this, but it was really fun! I chose to use one font only, but still emphasising some of the words by making them larger.

side 396 - a friendI chose to paper by Amy Tangerine only. I bought these last summer and haven’t used them yet (!!!). I love the colors and the patterns, but they haven’t really fit the layout I’ve made this year. I chose to spice things up a bit, but still try to choose papers that “fit the words” so that they were still readable.

side 396 - a friend d01I had originally printed a 4×6 photo, but seeing how large the title came out, I had to re-print as 3×4. I layered using the same papers plus some doilies.

It was so much fun cutting a large, bold title like this – I’ll definitely be doing it again! If you want to download the title as a cut file (.studio), you may do so here. I would love to see you create something with it, so if you do, please link me up!

Thanks for visiting today!

Cocoa Daisy sketch challenge

Hello!

I hope the week is treating everyone good so far! Today I thought I’d show you a layout that I made yesterday. Cocoa Daisy’s February sketch is so cool! I really love Emily’s interpretation of it, and although I like doing my own thing, I kept very close to the original sketch this time.

You see, my niece is a show jumper and I always go to her competitions to photograph her. Most of the time, the photos are like the one you see above. They’re not terribly good, especially not when she competes indoors. The photo above was shot at ISO6000 due to the poor lighting. It’s hard getting good photos in those conditions.

But then there are the times when it’s possible to get her to stand still for a few seconds at a time, like when they’re preparing the pony for transport. I got some very wonderful photos of that on Sunday…

DSC_4241I really like how the colors turned out. Much is due to the overcast weather we’ve been having; lots of indirect light! I could just print it in colors, but that would mean a tougher choice when picking patterned papers and embellishments. An easy solution is to covert to black/white.

There are many sites out there that offers free Lightroom presets/Photoshop action. I have a set that I really like, but I also make my own presets (a preset is  a one-click edit based on previous edits that you save).

DSC_4291-2I love the look on her face here, so in-tune with the pony. They’ve really got a special bond.

That’s what I wanted to scrapbook! There’s been a few articles in Norway lately, reporting research showing that female leaders often report to have been involved with horses lately. It is believed that the skills such a sport requires prepares the girls for leading positions later in life, having taught them good leadership skills. I don’t doubt this at all!

THIS LAYOUT WAS PICKED UP BY SCRAPBOOK TRENDS. LOOK FOR IT IN THEIR AUGUST 2013 ISSUE!

Out for publication

I kept this page fairly clean’n simple. I matted the photo with 3D foam dots to give it more depth and embossed the arrows on the bottom patterned paper-strip.

I wanted to keep the title bold and dominant, but added small touches to it by using some red alphas in addition to the black ones.

The journaling is about the research I mentioned above and how much I believe this to be true.

If you have not checked out the sketch, I urge you to do so, and also take part in the challenge. Click this link!

Have a good day, everyone!

A new layout + WINNER!

Hello, all!

I hope Monday is treating you alright!

Yesterday I made a layout for Cocoa Daisy’s January “Pleased to meet you”-challenge. The challenge this month is to scrap like MandyK. I chose her layout “Every girl dreams to have her own pony someday” as inspiration, tilted onto its side and drew a quick sketch. I printed my photo as large as I could on a A4-paper and used it on my own layout, copying Mandy’s large photo-style.

side 386 - my one & only

I used a ribbon underneath the doily to create some dimension, wrinkling it all up and stapling it down (I could not live without my stapler!).

side 386 - my one & only d02

I got some punchinella sheets (as I’ve heard them be called) with my last order from Cocoa Daisy and immediately fell in love! These things are gorgeous! (sparkly and flimsy at the same time!!!). I sliced on diagonally and added behind the photo on top of each other to create dimension and layers.

Also, Scrap365 has picked a winner for the FOCUS program from Simple Scrapper…Elpimi – you’re the winner! Please e-mail scrap365@traplet.com with your details! Congratulations :)

Thanks for taking part in the blog hop last week, everyone! See you soon!

January sketch with Scrap365/Sketchbook365

Hello, all!

I know it’s been ages, and apart from the same old excuse about work taking over, I have no other reason for not posting here lately. I’ve been keeping up with my DT obligations, but that’s about it. But today I have something to share.

The layout didn’t make the deadline over at Sketchbook365, so I thought I’d post it here.

Margrethe - relax & dream

I just love this photo of Terje and Nymeria and wanted to use the Dear Lizzy tag on something… Also, I really love sequins these days and I’m lucky enough to subscribe to two kit clubs that both include them in their kits. For this layout I used the November kit from Cocoa Daisy.

I hope everyone’s had a good December so far. We had the last day before the holidays yesterday so today I enjoyed sleeping in and have made two layouts and a card so far. One of the layouts and the card will be up on Scrappin Studio’s blog very soon – I’m guest designer there again this month.

Before you leave, please click this link and join and create something beautiful using the new sketch. You have until January 17th!

The Brave & Unafraid

Have you joined in on the new Cocoa Daisy sketch challenge? If not, I urge you to do so. Emily’s sketch is just so perfect. I love her layout too, so much fun with the different fonts in the title!

I took this photo on the same day as the ones  I used on a layout yesterday. It’s been two weeks, but work has kept me so busy I haven’t had a chance, or the energy, to scrap them before now.

Uh’oh. I just noticed that I’m lying… On the journaling card, I’ve stamped Aug 24th, 2012. The photo was taken the day after, on the 25th. I hate it when I make mistakes like that…! ;)

It is not days we remember, but moment – Skissedilla summer sketch

A simple layout from me today. I used Skissedilla’s July/summer sketch to make it. Papers and embellishments from Cocoa Daisy’s June kit + Scarlet Bird Designs button and die cuts.

Instead of making circles with a pen, twine or something else, I based my circle design on the paper doilies. These are beginning to function as a staple in my layouts recently… I wonder how long they’ll stay that way?

The photos are of flowers in my mother’s garden. She has a large garden with different kinds that blossom at different times. Always something new to look at and enjoy. I wanted to capture the short moment with summery weather as the summer hasn’t been the warmest or the sunniest yet.

Happy 4th of July to those who celebrate it! I hope everyone has a great day :)

Cocoa Daisy sketch challenge – Bestevenner

I know I mentioned that we did the ground work for the terrace in the backyard this weekend. This proved to be a great photo-op, and as me, my sister, my mom and now also my BIL is on Instagram, we had lots of fun documenting the process.

Also, it showed us that our cats love that we’re outdoors with them. Syrio, especially, came to hang out and he really bonded with my sister over the two days. The other two are more weird and not as sociable.

I knew I wanted to take part in Cocoa Daisy’s newest sketch challenge, but instead of using just one photo, I mixed two together in a small collage and printed. When I received June’s kit, I was a bit skeptical due to all the orange, but this layout came together in about 30 minutes, so it wasn’t as hard as I thought. Also, I’m really happy with this one.

I decided to add to the kit with a few bits and pieces from Elle’s Studio’s recent summer release. Love me so Elle’s Studio!

Thank you for joining me today. I’ll see you soon!

This is my story

This month’s assignment from Simple Scrapper is to scrap using phone-photos. As an avid Instagrammer I knew I had photos. The trouble was deciding which photos to use, and which story I wanted to scrap.

I chose a sketch from Simple Scrapper Premium Member’s May-gallery, which simply held the title “This is my story”. I chose this sketch because it held a lot of photos, arranged in a grid (and if you’ve followed me for a while, you know I love grids!). I decided to go with the title from the sketch and chose recent photos that tell some of my story. I use Instagram to share my life, my world, and it seemed appropriate to do the same for this assignment, adding another layer to the assignment.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the background (“Circles with stars” is made by April Lewis) and added back some of the cut-out stars. I used a doily as a journaling spot and added some tape and a bit of Heidi Swapp Opanble to add layers to the layout.

Thanks for reading :)

Style, style, baby!

So little scrapping these days, but this one came together in less than an hour yesterday… And that’s not counting the 30 minutes or so I used locationg Studio Calico’s “City of Lights”-kit. I received it right before we moved and I simply couldn’t remember where I had put it. I found it in the end, in the Experdit I use to store recent kits, photo paper and on which my photo printer is located. Go figure.

It was nice making something for me. I have scrapped lately, but for the DT’s I’m on. This is for me alone and I’m happy with the results:

side 338 - style, style, baby d01 side 338 - style, style, baby d02 side 338 - style, style, baby

This layout is based on this week’s Sunday Sketch from Studio Calico.

School is out in two weeks and I plan to play major catch up then. I haven’t done anything with Project Life since week 14 or so, but I hope that I can catch up and complete this year…

I’ll be posting some more new layouts very soon…! For those who still follow me, thank you for reading!

I will tell your story

This layout was madefor Simple Scrapper, May assignment: Use music lyrics! Based on the left side of a 2-page sketch from Simple Scrapper Premium Member* (March 2012)

I chose the song “Some Die Young” by Laleh:

The layout is about my husband’s grandmother. She’s amazing! The journaling says:
“Since I have no grandparents left, I try to remember every story Elsa tells me when we visit her. It’s become so important to me to keep her memories alive.”
