I love you…
Another month, and another prompt from A Year in the Life of an Art Journal. While I do feel bad about not participating when the other guest hosts arrange the prompts, I do love to play when it’s my own.
I tried art journaling a few years back, but my love for paper and grids and order stoppe me from getting where far. Some people say I just need to get some paint on my hands and I will be converted. I’m not so sure. I’m a neat girl and that’s all there’s too it.
But, I realize that there’s a fine line between art journaling and scrapbooking and whichever style you choose, it’s still art. Whatever you call it, it’s cool with me.
Maybe it was the whole journaling-aspect that made me sweat? If you know my style, you know there’s not a whole lot of journaling going on on my pages…
THE PROMPT: Love
THE STUFF: A list of things you love right now, a photo of a person you love, etc.
THE TECHNIQUE: Hearts – draw one, paint one, sew one, cut one out from a magazine. Whatever you come up with!
I knew I wanted to make a layout with “flying hearts”, but my initial plan of cutting hearts from a newspaper with my Silhouette Cameo fell through pretty quickly when I realized my cutting mat is still too sticky… Pulling and scratching newspaper paper from the mat is no fun. Trust me on that!
I ended up using a patterned paper instead.
Background paper from Sodalicious, stamp by Kelly Purkey, tape from Freckled Fawn. I love these Thickers!!!
And I love my husband. Which this layout is about.

Gorgeous layout – love the scattered hearts! I can relate to your issue with mixed media… messy does come easy to me! lol
Love the light colors, except for the Thickers. Super cute!
Just stunning. Love all the hearts and those thickers are the perfect touch!
So pretty Margarethe! I’m so feeling your pain with peeling off the newspaper – I cut a 12×12 super intricate background on a too-sticky mat and spent days scraping it off
Not fun!!
I’m not a messy person either (at least when it comes to scrapbooking, lol) but I do try to use the messy stuff every now and then – just keep it contained to a small element or to paint a shape on a background – you can do it, I know you can!
this layout is AWESOME!
The photos are fantastic and I LOVE the layout- the flower tape is AWESOME in that diagonal and the newsprint hearts are such a gorgeous detail! I’m so GLAD I read this post- I was just about to try using the Cameo at work to cut doilies out of vintage book print pages- what a MESS that would have made! I don’t think art journals need to be full of personal details- exploring the limits of your materials make for great pages as well. Off to check the link out- this sounds fun!
I love this, still haven’t started my Project Life. But I’m going to try and do the PAD this month
